At Farleigh Hospice, our Spiritual Care Team is led by our Chaplain and a team of volunteers from a range of faith and non-faith backgrounds.
While spirituality is often associated with religion, it also includes the beliefs, values, relationships and experiences that help people find meaning, comfort, and hope.
We support people of all faiths and none, and we are here for patients, families, friends, and carers. Our approach is open, inclusive, and shaped by what matters most to each individual.
We understand that living with a life-limiting illness can bring many thoughts and emotions. Our team is here to offer time, space, and support whenever you need it.
How we can support you
Our Spiritual Care Team will:
- Welcome you and offer a quiet space to talk and reflect
- Give you time and space in a calm, supportive environment
- Support you to explore your own faith or spirituality in your own way
- Listen without judgement and, if you wish, pray with you or for you
- Provide resources such as poems, music, religious texts, or sacraments
- Visit you at home or within the hospice

The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is a quiet space on the ground floor of Farleigh Hospice, set apart from the main clinical areas to offer peace, reflection, and stillness.
It is open to patients, families, carers, staff, and visitors.
You are welcome to:
- Sit quietly for reflection or prayer
- Light a candle
- Write in the memory book
- Use the available spiritual and reflective resources
The Sanctuary is fully wheelchair accessible, and arrangements can be made to support patients to visit in their bed if needed.
It is open to the public Monday to Friday, 9am–4.30pm. We recommend contacting reception before visiting.
Remembrance Services
Light Up A Life
Our Light Up a Life services offer a special way to remember loved ones during the winter months. Services take place across mid Essex, with Christmas trees lit in memory of those who are no longer with us.
Summer Memories service
This summer we will be holding a Summer Memories service on Saturday 6 June to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones. It is an opportunity for families, friends, and supporters to gather in a peaceful and reflective setting. More details to follow.
