Your pre-loved items help fund the compassionate care Farleigh Hospice provides every day, raising vital funds for patients and families across mid Essex.

What items can be donated

We accept and welcome a wide range of items, including:

  • Clothes and footwear
  • Books, CDs, DVDs and computer games
  • Bags, belts and clothing accessories
  • Toys and games
  • Small electrical items in working order
  • Jewellery, watches and clocks
  • Bric-a-brac and collectables
  • Artwork and musical instruments

How and where to donate

You can donate via:

  • Drop-off at your local shop
    Please call ahead if donating a large number of items so we can ensure adequate staffing and volunteer support
  • Home collection service for furniture
    Email [email protected] to arrange

Please do not leave items outside shops while closed for health and safety reasons. Thank you.

Guidelines on the condition of items

To help us resell your donations:

  • Items should be clean, in good condition and resalable
  • Broken or unsafe items cannot be accepted
  • Furniture must be in a safe, usable state
  • Your donations make a real difference

    When you donate to our shops, you’re doing far more than passing on pre-loved items. You’re helping to provide:

    • Expert hospice care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, at home and in our Inpatient Unit
    • Emotional, practical and bereavement support for families when they need it most
    • Therapies, wellbeing activities and community services that bring comfort, dignity and quality of life

    Every item you give helps ensure local people receive compassionate hospice care, completely free of charge.

    You can Gift Aid your donations to increase their value by 25% at no extra cost to you. Ask any member of our shop team how to become a Gift Aider.

Items we cannot accept

Every year it costs Farleigh Hospice over £36,000 to dispose of non-saleable items.
Please help us reduce this cost by not donating the following items.
  • Ashtrays (unless collectable)
  • Baby monitors
  • Bicycles
  • Child car seats
  • Cushion inserts without fire safety labels
  • Cycle helmets, crash helmets and riding hats
  • Flat-pack furniture that has been dismantled
  • Food and drink
  • Nightwear without fire safety labels
  • Oil heaters and lamps
  • Pianos
  • Pillows and quilts unless brand new
  • Razors and large sharp knives
  • Soft toys unless they have CE labels and no loose parts
  • Toys filled with water
  • Water safety toys and aids
  • Wheat warmers (microwaveable) without instructions
  • Upholstered items without fire safety labels
  • Mobile phones (even if working)
  • Deep fat fryers without instructions
  • Electric blankets and foot warmers
  • Electric knives
  • Electric lawnmowers without instructions
  • Fires/heaters without an on/off switch
  • Foot spas without instructions
  • Heated hair rollers (old style)
  • Infra-red lamps
  • Printers
  • Radiant electric fires without exposed elements
  • Sun lamps (without instructions)
  • Televisions (old box style)
  • Tumble dryers
  • Electric ovens
  • Fridges and freezers (unless shown to be in good working condition)

Recycling options

We recycle batteries and ink cartridges.

Please don’t send unnecessary items to landfill.
