How to contact us

Our advice line is here to support patients, carers and healthcare professionals with guidance on symptoms, medication or care at home. Our team can provide reassurance and help you find the right support when you need it.

Please note: Reduced staffing is in place from 6pm–8pm on weekdays and during weekends. Please be aware that response times may vary.

This is not an emergency number. If you need urgent medical help outside these hours, call NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999. 

When to call 

You can call the advice line if you: 

  • Have questions about symptoms or how to manage them at home 
  • Need advice before your next visit 
  • Want guidance on medications or care 
  • Are a carer or healthcare professional supporting someone with consent 

 

What we can help with 

We can provide guidance and reassurance on: 

  • Common symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, nausea, agitation or confusion 
  • Medication use, including how and when to give it 
  • Comfort and care at home 
  • Understanding changes in condition 
  • Signposting to other services such as your GP, NHS 111 or community teams 

 

Practical information for callers 

To help us give the best advice, it is useful to have: 

  • The patient’s name, address and date of birth 
  • Diagnosis and current symptoms 
  • Current medication and care arrangements 

Having this information ready allows us to provide reassurance and guidance more quickly.

The advice line is not open overnight. After 8pm, please contact NHS 111 for advice. In an emergency, call 999.

Frequently asked questions

Call if you, or someone you care for, is in pain, breathless, nauseous, vomiting, agitated, confused or showing other worrying changes. We can advise on how to manage these at home.
‘As needed’ medication, sometimes called PRN, is medicine given only when symptoms happen, such as pain, nausea or agitation. We can guide you on how much to give or take, how often, and what to watch for. Having the medication details ready when you call helps us give clear advice.
If symptoms worsen and you are concerned, call the advice line for guidance. If it is urgent and outside our hours, contact NHS 111 or call 999 in an emergency. 
We can suggest ways to manage discomfort, help with positioning, rest or coping strategies. Each situation is different, so having details about your condition or the person you care for helps us give tailored advice.
Yes. Patients, carers or healthcare professionals can call if a medicine seems ineffective, if you are unsure about the dose or timing, or if you need clarification about side effects. We cannot prescribe new medication over the phone.

Having your details, or the patient’s details if you are calling on their behalf, including name, address, date of birth, diagnosis, current symptoms and medications, helps us provide accurate advice quickly. 
Yes. Patients, carers and healthcare professionals can call even if you just need guidance or reassurance. Our team is here to support you and answer any questions. 
Yes. If you notice any change that concerns you, it is always better to call and get guidance.
