Emotional and practical support

When someone you love is living with a life-limiting illness, it can bring emotional and practical challenges. Our Family Support Team offers personalised support, providing space to talk, guidance with decisions, and help with the issues that matter most to you.

Our Family Support Team is here to help you through this difficult time. We offer space to talk, guidance with decisions, and support with both emotional and practical concerns.

Support is tailored to you and your situation, and we take a flexible approach based on what matters most to you.

How we can support you

We support family members, carers, and loved ones, recognising that everyone’s experience is different.

We can help with:

Emotional support related to your loved one’s illness

Feelings of anticipatory grief, worry and uncertainty

Changes in relationships and communication challenges

Adjusting to changes in role or identity

Practical and financial concerns

Future planning and decision making

Signposting to other services and support

Support with conversations within the family

What to expect

Your support will usually begin with an initial consultation, often by telephone. This gives us a chance to understand what you’re dealing with and what kind of support would be most helpful.

Depending on your needs, we may offer:

  • Information about life‑limiting illness and its impact on you and your family
  • Emotional support and space to talk
  • Educational group sessions with opportunities to connect with others facing similar situations through peer support
  • Advocacy and help with practical issues such as housing, future care planning, or end‑of‑life planning
  • Signposting to financial and welfare advice and other local support
  • One‑to‑one support or support as a couple, either by phone, video call, or in person
