What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government tax relief scheme that increases the value of your donation at no extra cost. When you donate to Farleigh Hospice and you are a UK taxpayer, we can reclaim the tax you have already paid, making your gift worth 25% more.
Example: a donation of £20 could be worth £25 after we claim Gift Aid.
How Gift Aid helps
Your support raises vital funds that allow Farleigh Hospice to provide free, compassionate care to people living with life-limiting illness and their families across mid Essex. Every eligible donation goes further without any extra cost to you.
How to complete a Gift Aid declaration
To add Gift Aid to your donation you need to:
- Be a UK taxpayer paying Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax
- Complete a Gift Aid declaration form confirming you agree to Farleigh Hospice claiming Gift Aid
- Provide your full name and home address
You can make a Gift Aid declaration:
- Online: tick the Gift Aid box
- Print: complete and return the form
- Retail shops: complete a separate Retail Gift Aid declaration
Once we have your declaration, we can claim Gift Aid on donations from the last four tax years and future donations.
Important information for donors
Gift Aid applies to voluntary donations only. It does not apply to payments where you receive something in return, such as tickets, raffles, auctions, or purchases.

UK taxpayers donating goods can complete a separate declaration to claim tax on the proceeds.

- Does it cost me anything? No. Gift Aid does not cost you anything extra.
- Can I claim tax back myself? Higher rate taxpayers may claim further relief via self-assessment.
- How far back can we claim Gift Aid? We can claim on donations from the last four tax years and future donations.
- What counts as paying enough tax? You must have paid at least as much Income Tax/Capital Gains Tax as we will reclaim.
