For two years in a row, the store team at Primark Chelmsford has chosen to support Farleigh in recognition of the care that we gave to the father of a member of staff and then, more recently, to one of the instore team.
Primark staff raise over £4,000 for Farleigh Hospice through community fundraising
Led by department manager, Shakira Barr, staff at the store have raised over £4,060 so far through fundraising events including bake sales, raffles, games, a quiz night and several dress-up days. Team manager, Megan Reeve, also did a sponsored tandem sky dive and colleagues have taken part in Walk for Life and Santa Fun Run.
At Primark, colleagues can access a budget to support local causes meaningful to them, by donating products or gift cards up to £500. Over the last two years, £1,000 of Primark products were donated to Farleigh as part of the store’s Holiday Giving campaign, supporting our patients with thoughtful gifts at Christmas.
Primark Chelmsford fundraising efforts continue to support hospice patients
On Tuesday 12 May, Kate Tighe, our Head of Nursing, Inpatient Care and Education, and our Corporate Fundraiser, Jacqui Shannon, visited the Chelmsford store. They were given £500 from Primark’s Good Neighbour Fund to go on a ‘supermarket sweep’ through the different departments. The pair had a great time filling a large trolley with quality essentials for our patients – including nightwear, slippers, t-shirts, jogging bottoms, sun hats, sun cream, sunglasses and blankets.

Some of these donated items were then taken to our specialist Inpatient Unit and given to the patients there.
Local businesses can back Farleigh Hospice
Kate Tighe said, “Thank you to the staff at Primark in Chelmsford for raising so much money for Farleigh. It was fantastic to go to the store and be given the opportunity to choose items that will really benefit and bring comfort to our patients.
“The money they have raised is helping Farleigh to continue providing our much-needed care to local families, who will be very grateful for the comfortable clothes and other items that were so generously donated.”
Farleigh Hospice is facing increasing demand for our services and so we are very grateful for the support that we receive from Primark in Chelmsford and other local businesses and organisations across mid Essex.
Staff take pride in supporting us
Shakira Barr, department manager at Primark Chelmsford, said, “We’re so proud to support charities that make a real difference in our local community, and Farleigh Hospice is a cause that means a great deal to our team. They provide so many opportunities to get involved through accessible and engaging events, making fundraising something everyone on the team can be part of.
“We have seen first-hand the difference Farleigh makes to local families, having supported our dear colleague in her final days. We are forever grateful for the care and compassion they show to so many families in our community.”
