Hundreds of cyclists will be joining us for one last nostalgic ride through the countryside as Cycle for Life returns for the final time on Sunday 20 September.
Our much-loved charity bike ride offers three scenic routes of 20km, 50km and 100km, all starting and finishing at Farleigh Hospice in Broomfield, Chelmsford.
The 20km route is ideal for beginners and families with younger cyclists, while the 50km route takes riders through all eight of the Essex Rodings. Experienced cyclists aged 18 and over can take on the challenging 100km course, which passes through the picturesque villages of Thaxted and Finchingfield and includes 35km of the 2014 Tour de France route. Every participant will receive a free Farleigh t-shirt and a finisher’s medal.
Fundraising for Farleigh
As well as providing a memorable day out, Cycle for Life raises much-needed funds for us here at Farleigh Hospice. We provide compassionate care and a range of specialist support for adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families across mid Essex, including Braintree, Burnham, Chelmsford, Halstead, Maldon and Witham.
We make no charge for any of our services and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who takes part and collects sponsorship, helping to ensure local people can continue to access our care and support.
Fun for family and friends

Emma Hunt, aged 51, is a member of the Beaulieu Flyers cycle club and has been a regular participant in Cycle for Life. She normally cycles the longer distances, but this year she’ll be taking on the 20km challenge with her grandson, Rudi, who will have just turned four. The pair will be riding on a special tandem bike which Rudi can pedal too.
Emma told us: “I have really enjoyed participating in Cycle for Life over the years. It’s a well-organised ride through some beautiful scenery and Farleigh Hospice is such a fantastic local charity to support.
“I’m excited to be taking part in the final event with my grandson. He will only be four, but he’s very into cycling and really likes medals so I know he’s going to love the whole day!
“Cycle for Life is such a great way to get active on your own or with family and friends. I’d encourage everyone to make the most of this last chance to take part and raise as much as you can for your local hospice.”
