The vintage vehicle was originally a 50th birthday gift, but it was never used and remained in storage in a barn in Chelmsford for 36 years.
The current owner, Richard Stubbings, kindly agreed to give it to the Essex and Suffolk Austin Seven Club to clean up and get running again, ready to be sold in aid of Farleigh Hospice.
Restoration
Hazel Clements from the Essex and Suffolk Austin Seven Club said, “The barn was covered with so much ivy that we had a to use a chainsaw to get the door open. Inside, we found the 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge covered in dirt, cobwebs and rat droppings and definitely not in a roadworthy condition.
“But, thanks to a lot of hard work from our club members and the generosity of some local vehicle suppliers, this beautiful classic car has been restored to its former glory and has passed its MOT.”
The 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge is now ready to be enjoyed by a new owner and it is hoped will raise thousands of pounds for local hospice care.
Auction
The fundraising auction will be held at Lodge Coaches’ Bus, Coach and Car Meet in High Easter on Sunday 16 August. It will be hosted by special guest auctioneer, Derek Mathewson, who is well-known for appearing in the television series Bangers and Cash.
Potential buyers do not need to register their interest ahead of the auction.
