Betty's volunteering story
Betty volunteers at her local Farleigh store one day a week. We spoke to her to find out why she chose to volunteer for Farleigh.
"I do one afternoon a week at the Gloucester Avenue store in Moulsham Lodge, and I may soon do two. I get on very well with all the other volunteers and have been here more than six years. Everyone is very friendly. I know lots of the regular customers - I only live around the corner.
I volunteer for Farleigh because they helped my husband so much. He was quite ill and Farleigh would provide respite care. My husband's family, his brother and sister-in-law were able to visit him. He was very close to his grandson who would come in to the Inpatient Unit.
My husband wanted to spend his last few days at Farleigh. He always wanted me to stay with him longer, he didn't want to be on his own. At Farleigh I could stay as long as I wanted. I was with him there until the very end.
I make a donation to Farleigh in my husband's memory on his birthday and on the anniversary of the day he passed away, and I always volunteer in the shop on that day."
