Leave a gift in your will to Farleigh
Farleigh Hospice is proud to have joined together with 143 hospices across England, Scotland and Wales this February for the launch of the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign.
Led by Hospice UK, this initiative aims to raise awareness of the vital care that hospices provide in communities, shift perceptions of hospice care and encourage people to consider leaving a legacy gift in their will to their local hospice to ensure this care lives on.
Hospice care is everything you'd expect and everything you wouldn't
At Farleigh Hospice, we provide specialist palliative and end of life care for adults affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement support for both children and adults in mid Essex.
We pride ourselves on being at the very heart of our community, offering compassionate care and support to our patients and their families when they need it most.
As well as easing pain and bringing comfort we also help our patients to embrace the life they have left. This could be supporting them to do everyday tasks that are important to their quality of life or helping them to do what matters most, such as making special memories with loved ones.
A gift in your will can help make sure Farleigh Hospice can continue to offer compassionate, free care to thousands of people each year, now and in the future.
For Carole, what mattered most was to marry her long-term partner, Tom, surrounded by friends and family, so our Inpatient Unit team organised a beautiful wedding for the couple in the hospice Sanctuary.
Tom said, "The enthusiasm from the Farleigh team almost exceeded ours. They were all working towards the wedding. After the ceremony it made me think I should have done this 40 odd years ago! It gave me a really content feeling. It affected me greatly. "
For Mick, who had been receiving treatment for lung cancer, finding out he had only six months to live was a huge shock and left him feeling depressed. After reluctantly attending his first physiotherapy at Farleigh Hospice to get him moving, Mick was able to get out more, his mood lifted and his cheeky personality returned - much to the delight of his wife Denise.

For Dominic, a rally-car enthusiast, having his driving licence revoked due to his life-limiting illness was really difficult, so Emma, his occupational therapist arranged for him to have a steering wheel simulator so he could continue to enjoy the experience of driving while stimulating his brain, muscles and co-ordination.

Sharon was cared for at home by the Farleigh Hospice South Locality Care Team for several years before she died. Her daughter, Lois, also received ongoing emotional and practical support from Farleigh.
Lois said, "My mum left Farleigh Hospice a legacy gift as a way of thanking them for the care she was provided, and the support I received from them. She wanted to give back after she passed away so that others are able to receive the same love and care she did."
You can help hospice care live on for all, for now, forever in mid Essex
Over the last 42 years, Farleigh Hospice has provided care to tens of thousands of people, like Carole, Mick, Dominic and Sharon, who are at the end of their lives, or living with life-limiting illnesses.
By leaving a legacy gift in your will you can help us continue our story and be here for anyone who needs us, for generations to come.
