Get into your stride and fundraise for Farleigh!
Walk for Life is an exciting opportunity to support Farleigh Hospice while enjoying the beautiful Essex countryside. It’s a day filled with fun, fitness, and community spirit—all to make a difference for those affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.
Choose from two beautiful routes along the scenic Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation towpaths into Chelmsford:
12km ramble from Paper Mill Lock, Little Baddow
24km more challenging walk from Heybridge Basin
Whether you take on the 12km or 24km route, you’ll get a t-shirt, medal, and the satisfaction of supporting an incredible cause. And your dogs are welcome to join too!
Both walk routes will finish at Teledyne E2V on Waterhouse Lane in Chelmsford.
This friendly event is suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities, so get together with family and friends for a gorgeous day's walking. We’ll support you every step of the way!
Please note that due to the nature of this route, it is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.
Transport information
Please note this is not a circular walking route. We therefore offer a dedicated ‘park and ride’ service for a cost of £4 per person from Chelmsford (Teledyne E2V, CM1 2QU) to take you to your chosen start point.
We strongly recommend using this service. There is a car park at Heybridge Basin (charges apply) but extremely limited parking at Paper Mill Lock. Please book early to avoid disappointment as coach spaces are limited. Further details are in the information pack.

| Coach travel: | Park and ride services leave from Teledyne e2v car park and must be booked in advance. For the 24km route, sign in from 8:00am – last coach departs for Heybridge at 9:15am. For the 12km route, sign in from 9:00am - last coach departs for Paper Mill Lock at 10:30am |
| Heybridge Basin start details: | 24km starts from Heybridge Basin, Daisy Meadow car park, CM9 4RW. Sign in between 8:15am and 10:00am, walk starts 8:30am to 10:00am |
| Paper Mill Lock start details: | 12km starts from Paper Mill Lock, CM3 4BS. Sign in between 9:15am and 11:30am, walk starts 9:30am to 11:30am |
