Meet the trustees - Sarah Glew
At Farleigh Hospice, we are governed by a Board of Trustees who are responsible for ensuring that Farleigh is solvent, well-run and meets its purpose.
Our thirteen trustees each make a valuable contribution to Farleigh. They bring their own talents, viewpoints and experience to the Board and their individual committees, to support us in achieving our objectives.
To mark National Trustees Week, held from 4 - 8 November, we interviewed Sarah Glew, one of our newest trustees, to learn more about her role as a trustee and why she gives her time to support us.
Sarah said, “My husband Andy was looked after by Farleigh in 2019 after he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma - a form of brain cancer. I have been involved in fundraising for the hospice ever since.
“I am very proud of the money we have raised as a family for the hospice over the past five years. I helped to organise two Spring Balls - one in 2020 and one in 2024. We also climbed Mount Toubkal in Morocco as a family as part of a team of trekkers raising money for the hospice in August 2024.”
Sarah is a clinical embryologist, who set up and now manages a fertility clinic as a director, she explains, “I became a trustee in September this year as I want to use my professional skills to assist the board in any way possible, to help challenge and assist with decision making.
“I sit on the board and am chair of the Income Generation and Communication Governance Committee. My business management skills, including knowledge of finance, budgets, HR, marketing and business development, coupled with my personal experience of the hospice’s care, help me to add value to the board.
“The most important part of my role as a trustee is to support the executive team to achieve the hospice's objectives. We help the board evolve and develop to provide best practice in all areas.
“The role can be very rewarding and trustees can really help to make a difference. I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a trustee to contact Farleigh.
