Yo-Yo Project Gallery - New Exhibition
During the summer holidays, children and young people from the Yo-Yo Project were invited into Farleigh Hospice to attend some creative workshops. The theme this year was ‘Dream Catchers’ and how sleep impacts our wellbeing.
Being mindful of the environment, we encouraged the young people to use resources from their local environment. On the morning of each group, we went out on a scavenger hunt to find the materials that they wanted to use to create their dreamcatchers. Sticks of various lengths were chosen along with leaves, feathers, seeds, stones and other bits and pieces.
The children returned to the craft room and, using recycled wool and donations from our Farleigh shops, the basic dream catcher frame was put together and the web made from the wool. The children were encouraged to decorate their dream catchers with beads and buttons, feathers and leaves.
Each dream catcher was unique. Some children wrote explanations about who they made their dream catchers to remember and others described the unique qualities of their dream catcher.
During each group, children talked about their bereavement and its impact, how they manage to continue living and how they develop their resilience in life. Ideas and thoughts were shared and friendship and connections were made.
The culmination of this activity is now on display at Farleigh Hospice for the children, young people, parents, carers and family members of those who attended the group to view.
