Our plans for a new Maldon centre

We are developing a new Farleigh centre in Maldon to give patients and their families more choice and easier access to local hospice care and bereavement support.
In January 2020, we purchased a building near Maldon’s Promenade Park with plans to open a second base there, as part of our mission to ensure that hospice care and bereavement support is available to all.
Sadly, the Covid pandemic stopped our plans for its redevelopment. We have since put the building to good use – despite it needing a lot of work – with our south locality care team now based there.
Local care where it’s needed
Three years on, we are delighted to finally share our exciting plans for this building with you. It will provide a much-needed hub where local people can benefit from all of the services that Farleigh offers at our main hospice building in Chelmsford, with the exception of the inpatient service.
The centre will remain home to the south locality care team, who are multi-disciplinary professionals that provide a holistic hospice service. There will be a strong focus on supporting our patients receiving palliative care to live well.
They will be able to access a wide range of consultative and therapeutic services at the centre or in their own homes, wherever they prefer. It will also provide a base for our bereavement team to reach out to those bereaved within the local area.
Building local services
We have ambitious plans to renovate and extend the building (see the architect’s image of the new front) and change the layout to create multifunctional spaces inside for:
• work
• private consultations
• group meetings
• a quiet area
• an area to access information
• a large hall with opportunities for community group meetings, exhibitions, staff conferences and education/training events
• a café for our patients and service users, our supporters and the wider public.
We hope our supporters and those who use our services in and around the Maldon area will be as excited about the development of our new centre as we are!
