The charity and community team of the school’s student council organised a non-uniform day on the 28 May to raise money for Farleigh Hospice.
Farleigh Hospice would like to say a huge thank you to the staff and students at New Rickstones Academy in Witham for their fantastic fundraising efforts. Staff and students were encouraged to wear purple in honour of Farleigh, and the proceeds from the day came to £660.10!
The school also held an inter-tutor group card competition to design a three-dimensional card featuring a flower. Held during tutor group time, the competition formed part of their social development education and encouraged teamwork and creativity. Students were grouped into teams of four, each team had to design one 3D card featuring a flower. Each team was assigned a different flower to use in the design.
Zoe Cruci, Head of Year 8 at New Rickstones Academy says: “The students wanted to make these cards as a cheerful token for both staff and patients at Farleigh Hospice. It has been a tough year for everyone and Year 8 wanted to add some cheer and make patients smile. The student council selects one local and one national charity to support every year and students regularly vote for Farleigh Hospice as the local choice to fundraise for. It is a cause very close to the hearts of everyone at the school and within our local community.”
Fundraising Manager at Farleigh Hospice, Debbie de Boltz says: “We are so grateful for the regular support of staff and pupils from New Rickstones Academy. They have raised a fantastic amount from their non-uniform day and we love that they encouraged everyone to wear our colours. The cards that the students have made look wonderful and will most certainly raise a smile among the patients, care team and volunteers. Every penny raised by the children will go towards helping Farleigh to continue to provide vital care and support for people in mid Essex affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.”
New Rickstones Academy is a co-educational 11-19 comprehensive independent Academy.
