Farleigh meets election candidates to discuss future challenges

Richard Parry, the Labour party candidate for Chelmsford, and Issy Waite, the candidate for North West Essex, visited our hospice building in Broomfield on 13 June.

Richard and Issy wanted to gain a deeper understanding of Farleigh Hospice and the challenges we will face in the future.

Data shows a projected 25% increase in the number of individuals in our community who will require end-of-life care by 2040, which will significantly increase demand for our services.

They met with our Chief Executive, Sarah Green, to discuss how we can tackle this issue, both in terms of funding and resources.

Additionally, they explored a palliative care and end-of-life manifesto created by Hospice UK, Marie Curie, Sue Ryder, the National Bereavement Alliance and Together for Short Lives. This manifesto urges the next government to address the insufficient funding in the hospice sector, support the implementation of a national plan, improve care planning and promote greater equality in accessing hospice services.

Sarah Green said, "It was a pleasure to welcome Richard and Issy to Farleigh Hospice. Their visit gave us the opportunity to show them the facilities we have at the hospice itself but also explain the breadth of work that takes place in our community supporting patients and families in their own homes. This being one of the facts about the work of Farleigh that people often aren’t aware of. It was also a great opportunity to explain the challenges that lay ahead for the hospice and what the next government could do to support both locally and nationally".
