Farleigh Hospice joins national campaign to change perceptions of hospice care

Farleigh Hospice is one of 143 hospice charities across England, Scotland and Wales that are taking part in the new ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign.

This initiative is organised by Hospice UK, the national organisation set up to promote and protect hospice care. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the vital role that hospices play in communities, to change the public perception about hospice care and encourage people to consider leaving a legacy gift in their will to ensure this care lives on.

The campaign launched on Monday 17 February and features a powerful television advert (see below) that is based on real-life stories of hospice care.

Farleigh Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to adults affected by life-limiting illnesses and their families, and also helps bereaved children and adults across mid Essex. As well as easing pain and bringing comfort, the charity helps people to have a good quality of life and to do the things that matter most to them with the time they have left.

Farleigh will be supporting the national campaign and sharing stories of real people who have experienced its wide range of care to highlight that hospice care is everything you expect and everything you wouldn’t.

These stories include a rally-car driving enthusiast who was supported by his occupational therapist to obtain a wheel simulator, so he could continue to enjoy the experience of driving after his license was revoked due to his life-limiting illness. Also, a patient staying on Farleigh’s inpatient unit who was helped to fulfil their wish of getting married to their long-term partner in the hospice’s sanctuary.

People are encouraged to consider leaving a legacy gift in their will to support Farleigh to ensure that this charity can continue to provide compassionate and specialist local hospice care for future generations.

Sarah Green, Chief Executive of Farleigh Hospice, said, “We are delighted to be part of the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign which shines a light on the diverse and unexpected ways that hospices go the extra mile to care for those who are dying and the people around them. At Farleigh, we remember what really matters: we provide the excellent care that people expect and so much more to help our patients and their loved ones to embrace the life they have left.

“We have an ageing population, so demand for our care is increasing each year. That is why it has never been more important to consider leaving a legacy gift – no matter how big or small - to Farleigh Hospice in your will, so we can continue to be there for you, your family and everyone else who may need our care in the future.”
