We are very grateful to the Mayor of Chelmsford who has chosen to support Farleigh Hospice during her year in office.

Councillor Janette Potter was appointed as the Mayor of Chelmsford in May. She and her Mayoress, Jackie Galley, have both chosen to raise money for Farleigh.

We are the local hospice charity providing specialist care and support, free of charge, to people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement in Chelmsford and across mid Essex.

The Mayor explained, “Farleigh Hospice supported my husband, Terry, towards the end of his life and also supported the Mayoress after her husband, John Galley, passed away during his time as Mayor of Chelmsford.

“Farleigh is an important local charity that relies on public support and donations. All of our fundraising during our year in office will help it to continue providing its much-needed services with dignity, care and compassion.”

The Mayor and Mayoress, along with the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Susan Sullivan, and her Consort, John Pioli, have already shown their support for Farleigh at several events since May.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were taken on a tour of our hospice building in Broomfield by our Chief Executive, Sarah Green on 7 June. They also joined Sarah at a coffee morning hosted by our Springfield Fundraising Group where they met with other supporters of the charity.

Councillor Potter and Jackie Galley have visited the Farleigh Full Circle store in Chelmsford High Street. The Mayor and Mayoress have supported our stores in the past and the Mayor considers purchasing items from charity shops as a way of recycling.

The pair also took part in the filming of a promotional video for next summer’s ‘Buzz in the City’ art trail which will bring a swarm of colourful bee sculptures to the streets and parks of Chelmsford. The event will attract more visitors to the city, boosting the local economy and raising money for Farleigh.

Debbie de Boltz, our Head of Fundraising, said, “Thank you to the Mayor and Mayoress and their colleagues for their genuine interest in Farleigh Hospice and the care and support that we provide to the local community in Chelmsford.

“We are delighted to be the Mayor’s chosen charity and are so pleased she has pledged to encourage support for the hospice during all her mayoral engagements and very much look forward to working with her during her year in office.”

Our next fundraising event officially supported by the Mayor is our Garden Fete in the grounds of our hospice building in Broomfield on Saturday 7 September, midday to 4pm. Entry is free with plenty to enjoy including a petting zoo, face painting, garden games, food, craft stalls, a pop-up bar, live music, a tombola and vintage cars.
