An announcement from Sarah Green, Chief Executive of Farleigh Hospice

Thursday 23rd January

  • News

I recently announced that I will be taking compassionate leave from my role at Farleigh for nine months, from the end of March 2025.

Over the last 18 months, I have been proud to lead this amazing hospice charity and to have worked with such professional, caring and compassionate colleagues, who all work together as ‘one team’ to provide the best palliative and end of life care for our community.

I was delighted that the work of the hospice was recognised by the Care Quality Commission during an inspection in January 2024, where we were awarded an overall rating of ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ in the key area of caring. I have very much enjoyed working within the wider health and social care system, influencing the direction of palliative and end of life care to benefit a growing number of people who need care and support. I am pleased to have played a role in the Hospice Collaborative Partnership (HCP) consisting of Farleigh Hospice, St Luke’s Hospice and Havens Hospices, to establish a new Hospice Rapid Access Service that provides equitable access to care at home, in a hospice bed or in a nursing home across Mid and South Essex.

I have also been pleased to work with our Chair, Board, Executive team and the whole team at Farleigh to help deliver the second year of our current strategic plan, as well as to have played a role in the development of the next strategic plan for 2026 and beyond.

I am delighted to share the news that Michelle Kabia has been appointed as the Interim Chief Executive. I have every confidence that the hospice will continue to meet the challenges it faces in the future with the needs of our community always at the heart of all its decisions and developments.

I hope you will give her a very warm welcome, and I look forward to returning to Farleigh as Chief Executive in due course.

Sarah Green, Chief Executive
